Araiys Design is a well established, award winning landscape architecture firm situated on the east end of Long Island. We are seeking talented, highly motivated candidates who are comfortable working in a fast paced environment.

 

We are seeking an Jr. Intern Landscape Architect to complement our growing design team. Applicants should possess strong technical, graphic, and design abilities, as well as the ability to collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects.

Araiys Design is located in the historic Village of Southampton with its natural beauty, outdoor oriented culture, and a thriving art scene. To better support a balance between work and personal time we offer a half day Friday schedule. Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience designing Site Plans, Dune Revegtation Plans, Existing Conditions Plans, Renderings, Construction Schedules, Field Work etc. for residential, commercial, recreational and municipal design.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that include the ability to work with diverse clients and teams of designers/ other collaborators.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Suites (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) and Microsoft Suites.

  • Knowledge of Sketch-up, Rhino, or any other 3D programs a plus.

  • Knowledge of local plant material.

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited Landscape Architectural program

Job duties:

  • Preparation of base maps, working drawings, construction details, idea boards and presentation plans utilizing AutoCAD and Civil 3D software. Prepare applications and design plans to be submitted to Village, Town, County, State, and Federal agencies. Conduct research and case study of exemplary built projects to explore design ideas and solutions, project code review. Prepare hand sketches showing design ideas and draft proposed concepts for final site plans submission. Draft site plans for residential, commercial, and institutional projects that include placement of principal and accessory buildings and structures. Draft measurements and locations of existing site elements. Record keeping for project meetings, project filing and maintenance of digital files.

  • Preparation of concept sketches and detailed plans that illustrate design concepts, working drawings, specifications, proposals, and budgets for proposed sites or systems. Assist in the writing of project specifications that dictate type and quantity of materials to be used by contractors. Preparation of office standard details used in construction drawings. Preparation of cost estimates and bid comparison sheets to assist project managers and clients in the selection of contract awards. Assign item numbers to project details and specifications for use in preparation of construction documents and Bid Forms.

  • Visit sites to observe environmental problems, to consult with contractors, and to monitor construction activities. Assist in site meetings with contractor and builder to ensure the proper installation of project details and specifications, coordinate with project engineers

  • Provide Best Management Practice guidelines related to stormwater pollution management and ground and surface water resources.

  • Discuss plans with clients, contractors, consultants, and other engineers so that they can be evaluated and necessary changes made.
